Dance Forum No.7

In honour of the International Day of Dance

The International Day of Dance is celebrated with dance performances all over the world on 29th April, on the birthday of Jean Georges Noverre, who is regarded as the giant of ballet. This is the biggest celebration of dance art and in connection with this festivity, the National Dance Theatre and the Union of Hungarian Dance Artists organize a festival for the seventh time.

This year the Dance Forum No.7 is going to take place at 2 venues again. In the National Dance Theatre and in the Palace of Arts the audience can visit performances created for adults or for children. We set our sights at the child audience with the performances of the Budapest Dance Theatre and the Budapest Dance Ensemble, because - in line with the efforts of the UNESCO - the National Dance Theatre considers the artistic education of children also important.

The festival is going to be opened by the new, large-scale production of the Budapest Dance Ensemble and the Honvéd Dance Theatre, the Monarchy. Two foreign companies are also going to introduce themselves - due to the invitation and organization of the National Dance Theatre - within the frame of this years programme: the Spanish Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras and the American Bridgman / Packer Dance. In the evening of 27th April (when the Budapest Dance Theatre and the Ballet Pécs will be performing) the audience can behold the choreographies of Raza Hammadi and in the Palace of Arts, the Hungarian State Folk Ensmeble will performHungarina Concerto, which had great success during their 3 month tour in the Untited States of America.The Ballet Győr is going to present The Phantom of the Opera, then the program series will be concluded with the premiere of Carmens, created by the Company Attila Csabai.

According to the tradition, on the International Dance Day, on 29th April - prior to the premiere of 20th Century Evening by the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company - the professional awards of the Union of Hungarian Dance Artists are going to be handed over: the Life Achievement Award, the awards for the best male and female dance artists of the year, the awards for the best graduating young artists and the Award for the Dance Art. The award of the Zoltán Imre Foundation is also going to be handed over this evening.
