Our performance takes place somewhere on the border of dream and wakefulness. In the no-man’s land of transitions and exits. It is an unknown land for us, unexplorable, unpossessable. Our sense of reality has banished it, and deep psychology refuses to acknowledge it. It recalls a past which never had a real present, and still its ghost, its sensual reality makes your whole being, your essence tremble. What happens to you there and then is naturally impossible to tell, but not impossible to dance. In fact, dance and only dance seems able to linger in it, only dance seems able to express its essence which cannot be related to anything else.

Budapest Dance Theatre
The performance entitled Mediterranean was created as a collaboration between two choreographers, Joseph Tmim and Raza Hammadi, who have been successfully cooperating with the Budapest Dance Theatre for many years. Both performances are based on the amalgamation of Mediterranean and European dance cultures, but each choreographer introduces his own bond with this culture from a different view point.

9th Dance Panorama, Keszhely
For three days in September, Keszthely will once again become the capital of dance around Lake Balaton. The National Dance Theatre and the Balaton Conference Centre and Theatre will host the 9th Keszthely Dance Panorama between 15 and 17 September. Over the three days, four dance shows will be performed. The programme also includes a children’s show, ballet, and folk dance.

Compagnie La Baraka
Nya, arab word meaning “to trust in life”, was an obvious title for this creation. In fact, in Algeria, ever since our earliest childhood, we have learned this word from our parents, a word related to God and which is part of every day vocabulary. The one who possesses this Nya will be able to turn all the suffering into strength, and will help to blossom, to open up to the world. This creation is a diptych, two pieces on two different musics illustrating both French and Algerian collective memories : The Boléro by Maurice Ravel, Songs by Houria Aichi.

Budapest Dance Ensemble
The first two pieces from the series titled „Live Martin Archives” follow the dance movie shooting path of the never-resting ethnographer,
György Martin (1932-1983) – thus giving a salute for his memorable life work. The value of the dance collecting activities of György Martin and his colleagues throughout Hungary and Transylvania was of great ethnographical importance on the history of Hungary’s and of Europe’s dance exploration.

As a genre, the characteristics of rhapsody are distraction, emotion, passionate waves of ideas and freedom of expression. The performance entitled Hungarian Rhapsody has one of the most important features of the genre built into it, based on traditions and drawing from it, it brings into existence a specific and unique dance rhapsody. The swirling diversity of the Carpathian basin peasant traditions appear in the images that switch dynamically with each other: the acrobatics of the male dances, the lyricism of the girls’ dances, the virtuosity of the couple dances.

Compaigne Pál Frenák
This new choreography was inspired by the same memories of
Pál Frenák that served as the basis for his early work titled Skateboards. It is as if themes from recent years (relationships, sexuality and gender identity) were taking a back seat now and precedence given to the internal and pulsating states of the single individual and the group, along with the dynamics of the decay and reconstruction of a social existence.
